The Tangerines confirmed their spot in the League One playoffs with a 2-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday, with Simms scoring a brace for Critchley’s side.

Simms, who joined Blackpool on loan in January, found the back of the net twice to help the side secure a playoff spot, while also taking his League One goalscoring tally to seven goals.

Reflecting on the Everton loan star’s performance, Seasiders boss Critchley said that the striker was very lively and made life difficult for their opponents, along with fellow striker Jerry Yates.

However, Critchley feels Simms will be disappointed to have not scored a hat-trick and gone home with the match ball as Doncaster goalkeeper Louis Jones prevented him from adding to his tally.

I thought he was a real handful tonight [Tuesday; ed.], real handful“, Critchley told iFollow Tangerines.

He is probably disappointed he has not come away with the match ball because he scored two and the goalkeeper made a couple of good saves of him as well.

Him and Jerry, I thought were really lively, particularly second-half, they caused them a lot of problems.

It looked like a really good centre-forward partnership tonight.

Having helped Blackpool book a playoff spot, Simms will now be looking to help them earn promotion before returning to Everton.
