Rangers have a 23-point lead at the top of the table and are aiming to finish the season by remaining unbeaten and breach the 100-point barrier in the final two games.

But the Scottish champions are well on their way in preparations for next season and have already confirmed the pre-contract arrival of Zambian striker Sakala in the summer.

Ferguson feels that the striker definitely has quality but insisted that he will have to quickly learn how to deal with the pressure and expectations that come with playing for Rangers.

But he stressed that Sakala’s capture even before the season ends is a sign that the Rangers board are again ready to hand Gerrard significant funds to invest in the squad this summer.

The former Rangers star admitted that if the club sign a few more players in the next few weeks as well he would not be surprised.

Ferguson said on The Go Radio Football Show: “I saw it a week or so ago and it looked like Rangers were going to sign him.

“I did a bit of homework on him.

“He is a good centre-forward no doubt but there is a difference between playing in Belgium and coming to Rangers with the demands and the expectations that are put on you.

“But he looks the part and it just shows you that the board again are willing to back Steven Gerrard and it’s a great thing.

“And don’t be surprised over the coming weeks if you see another one or two players coming through the door.”

It remains to be seen whether Rangers decide to cash in on one of their stars to balance the books in the summer.
