Tottenham are on the lookout for a new manager to replace Jose Mourinho and have been linked with Potter, who is currently enjoying his second season with Brighton.

Former Brighton star Aspinall has suggested that he is not surprised by Potter’s links with Spurs as he feels he is a wonderful manager and is expected to attract interest from top clubs.

However, Aspinall feels taking charge of Tottenham might not be the right thing for Potter to do at this stage of his career and warned the 45-year-old by explaining that he could even find himself without a club just one year after moving to London.

Aspinall pointed out how Potter is making significant progress in his project at Brighton by taking the club forward and expressed his confidence in the Englishman to turn down an offer from Spurs if he does receive one.

He has got a project at this football club and he is enjoying his project“, Aspinall said on BBC Radio Sussex.

At the moment, he is moving the club forward, small steps, it is not big giant steps where we’re going into the top six, it is small steps and we’re moving forward.

He’s bringing players through who he likes to train, coaching youngsters and bringing players though, he is doing that at Brighton football club, so everything he wants to do, he is doing.

Yes, he is on a decent contract at Brighton football club.

He can go to Spurs, could have one season and be out of the door, so yes, it is a big decision for managers.

But, I think Graham Potter is a wonderful manager [but] it might not be right for him in this situation in his career.

They will come poaching, the big clubs will come poaching him because I think he is a wonderful manager, wonderful coach and he is a player’s coach, you can go and talk to him, can’t you?

So that’s what I think, yes, they [Brighton] will knock it back for sure and I think Graham Potter will, he has got loyalty to Brighton football club.

Potter has a contract with Brighton until 2025 and it remains to be seen if Tottenham can lure him to London if they do decide to step up their interest in him.
