The 25-year-old returned to the starting line-up as the Whites thrashed Sean Dyche’s Burnley 4-0 at Turf Moor on Saturday, boosting their chances of a top half finish.

Impressed with Phillips’ performance against the Clarets, former top flight star Crooks pointed out how the midfielder was at the heart of Leeds’ football.

The former Tottenham Hotspur forward hailed the England international for his unselfishness and also dubbed him a beautiful striker of the ball.

Crooks admitted that it is a stretch to liken Phillips to Manchester United legend Robson, but went on to liken him to Liverpool captain Henderson and insisted that the Leeds star will have done extremely well to have a career like the 30-year-old.

The player at the heart of some glorious football for Leeds was Kalvin Phillips“, Crooks wrote in his BBC Sport column.

A beautiful striker of the ball, always looking to play forward and totally unselfish.

I’ve likened his game to that of Manchester United legend Bryan Robson, which might have been a stretch, but he’s definitely a Jordan Henderson.

If Phillips goes on to have the career either of those players have had, he will have done extremely well.

Having marked his return to the Leeds line-up with an impressive performance, Phillips will be hopeful of earning a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the European Championship.
