The 21-year-old has enjoyed an impressive first season in the Bundesliga, featuring in 29 games for Die Wolfe, helping them finish in a Champions League place.

Wolfsburg have attempted to renew Lacroix’s contract of late, but the 21-year-old declined the offers put in front of him, leaving his future at the Volkswagen Arena up in the air.

The German club want to keep hold of the defender, but is claimed that they could consider seeing him for an offer in the region of €30m.

And Premier League side Chelsea have identified the defender as a potential signing in the upcoming transfer window, touching base with his agents.

Lacroix has represented France at various youth levels with his latest involvement being with their Under-20 side.

Wolfsburg snapped the 21-year-old up from French outfit Sochaux last summer and handed him a four-year contract.

He featured in three Europa League qualifying games for Oliver Glasner’s side, in addition to playing in the German Cup.
