Rangers eased to the Scottish Premiership title this season and are now looking forward to returning to the Champions League.

They will enter into the third round of the Champions League qualifiers and are four games away from being in the group stage of Europe’s premier club competition.

Rangers will still be very early in their season when they play in the Champions League qualifiers and Hartson conceded that it will be a challenge for the players.

Hartson pointed out that some of the teams they could face might be more prepared, but he is certain that Gerrard will make sure his players are physically ready for the big European games.

The former striker said on the Go Radio Football Show: “Whenever the qualifiers come, I’d imagine Steven Gerrard will get his team in.

“He will get them fit, he will get them up to speed because they can take place really early in our season.

“Whereas the teams might face could be ten to 15 games into their respective leagues so they would already be up to speed.

“I’d imagine somebody like Steven Gerrard, the professionalism that he has got.”

Next season’s Scottish champions will directly qualify for the group stage of the 2022/23 Champions League campaign.
