Critchley’s side placed one foot in the League One playoff final with a 3-0 victory over Oxford United in the first leg of their playoff semi-final on Tuesday.

Starring in the game for the Tangerines was Everton loan star Simms, who found the back of the net twice and ensured that his team took a significant lead in the tie.

Hailing Simms’ performance, Blackpool boss Critchley pointed out that the striker was a handful for the opponents and insisted that he played like a man on the night.

The former Liverpool youth coach lauded the 20-year-old’s contributions and went on to point out how he has formed a good partnership with fellow striker Jerry Yates.

That’s why we played two up front, because we thought we could give them a problem with that“, Critchley told iFollow Tangerines.

I thought Ellis played like a man, I thought he was a real handful.

Backed in, kept the ball well, ran in behind and to get two goals as well, he made a huge contribution for us.

I think he’d be the first to say that the team helped him with that.

Jerry slid him in beautifully for the third goal as well, so those two work really well together.

Simms has scored ten goals for Blackpool since joining on loan in January and will be looking to add more to the tally before returning to Everton.
