Darren Moore has been tasked with taking Sheffield Wednesday back to the Championship after the club dropped down to League One this season.

The Englishman is keen to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2021/22 campaign and has identified Doncaster Rovers star James as an ideal candidate to bolster his defence.

Sheffield Wednesday were at several Doncaster Rovers games last year and were drawn to the 27-year-old, who has a contract with the Reds coming to an end in the coming weeks.

Though Reece could be available on a free transfer, the Owls’ relegation to the third tier could make striking a deal for the left-back difficult.

Sheffield Wednesday have become a less attractive destination after they finished at the bottom of the Championship table and could struggle to take their interest in James further.

James was one of Moore’s key players during his time in charge of Doncaster Rovers, but that might not be enough to lure the full-to Hillsborough.

While the Owls have shown interest in James, Doncaster Rovers are keen to keep him at the Keepmoat and have offered him a new deal.
