Pepe joined Arsenal for a club record fee of £72m in the summer of 2019 and in his debut season for the Gunners made 31 appearances in the Premier League with a return of just five goals.

The season gone by has seen the forward’s numbers improve however, as he scored ten goals in 29 league appearances for the Gunners.

Watt believes that Pepe has only started to get to grips with the demands of playing for Arsenal and is now showing confidence.

He added that he feels the forward has just shown a glimpse of his talents at the Emirates so far and that the player has yet to hit his ceiling in terms of his abilities.

“Pepe was just starting to find his rhythm”, tweeted Watt.

“Playing with confidence.

“I guess he’s just warming up.

“Still more to come from him.”

Although Pepe’s numbers have been much-improved this season, he has not come near the best goalscoring tally of his career, when he scored 22 goals in 38 league games for French side Lille in the 2018/19 season.
