Manchester United have travelled to Gdansk as massive favourites to beat Villarreal and lift the Europa League, which would be their first trophy in four years.

Villarreal finished seventh in La Liga and their only ticket back to the Champions League next season is to win the Europa League on Wednesday night.

Thornley stressed if all the Manchester United players are at it and on their game, they are likely to take care of their Spanish opponents in the final.

He insisted that it would be great to see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lift his first trophy as Manchester United manager, but conceded that on the day of the final, no player can afford to be off their game as a passenger as it could then cost the team on the big day.

Thornley said on MUTV, previewing the final: “There can be no surprises and there can be no passengers.

“If that is the case then United will win it.

“It has been a really good season, a season of firsts like going all the way through away from home without getting beaten and let’s hope this can be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first trophy on Wednesday night.

“And he really deserves it but, we can’t have anybody as a spectator as Villarreal are a very good side.

“It is going to take a very good performance to beat them.”

Solskjaer made ten changes to his line-up against Wolves on Sunday and will have his best players fresh and fit to start against Villarreal.
