A defensive midfielder by trade, Joey has also featured in attacking roles this season and has scored seven goals and provided ten assists in the Eredivisie.

He is almost certain to leave Heerenveen this summer and Henk admits that losing someone he has a great connection with on the pitch would be less than ideal.

Henk told Dutch regional broadcaster Omrop Fryslan: “[If he leaves], then it will change enormously and that’s true.

“It will be a serious problem for me.”

Rangers are one of the clubs who are considering signing him this summer and a slew of Dutch clubs are also keen on the midfielder, ahead of the opening of the window in the coming months.

But Henk claimed that he has also read talk that suggests that even Celtic are plotting to sign his team-mate in the next transfer window.

“I have read about Atalanta, Rangers, Celtic, PSV, Ajax and AZ [Alkmaar]. I think it will be between one of these clubs.

“I think Joey can be an added value for any club in the Netherlands.”

Legendary Dutch coach Aad de Mos recently revealed his scepticism about Veerman’s ability to adapt to the demands of playing for a big club.
