The 21-year-old was one of the two signings Liverpool made towards the end of the winter transfer window to try and solve their injury crisis in the centre-back position.

Kabak helped Liverpool secure a top four finish in the season gone by, but the Reds have decided against making his loan from Schalke permanent despite having the option to do so for £18m.

With the Turkey international’s loan spell at Anfield coming to an end, newly-relegated Bundesliga side Schalke are said to be looking to sell him to other clubs in England.

Newcastle have been linked with a move for Kabak recently and Schalke are expected to offer the Tyneside outfit a chance to sign the centre-back this summer.

Steve Bruce’s side attempted to sign the former Stuttgart star in January before Liverpool struck a deal with Schalke in the final days of the winter transfer window.

It is possible that Newcastle still hold an interest in Kabak, but his price tag of £18m could prove to be a hurdle for a club that are working on a tight budget.

Apart from Newcastle, Leicester City have also been credited with an interest in the defender after Liverpool decided against securing his services on a permanent deal.
