Daniel Levy has been conducting talks to bring the former Chelsea manager to north London this summer as part of a major statement from Tottenham.

There are claims that a deal is more or less done and he is likely to become the next Spurs manager, but there are suggestions in Italy that Levy has been taken aback by Conte’s demands on wages and the transfer kitty he wants.

Groves stressed if Conte joins Tottenham his ambition will be to win the Premier League title again and not just take the club back into the top four spots.

He insisted that Conte is far too demanding for a club of Tottenham’s stature and he is going to be far too ambitious for the north London club.

Groves said on talkSPORT: “He is not going there to get Spurs into the top four and make them competitive.

“He is going there, worst way out, to win the title in his second season because the first season is too much of a gap.

“I think he is going to have too much ambition for Spurs.

“He is going to be the head of recruitment as he wants all his players to come in and all the players he wants, he would want a massive budget and he will want to take his own staff there.”

Tottenham have not won the league title since the 1960s and their last major piece of silverware was the EFL Cup in 2008.
