After spending the 2019/20 season on loan at Elland Road, where he became the first choice goalkeeper toward the tail end of the campaign, Meslier joined the Whites permanently last summer.

He made 35 appearances for Leeds in the Premier League this past season and kept eleven clean sheets, being a key part of the Whites’ team that secured a top-half finish in their first campaign back in the top flight.

Green revealed a talk with Ayling where the Leeds defender expressed his belief that Meslier would receive significantly more attention if he was English and he agrees with the sentiment.

“As Luke Ayling said to me: ‘If he was English, everyone would be raving about him’”, Green was quoted as saying by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“He is an amazing kid and only 21.”

The former Leeds goalkeeper also expressed curiosity about how the current Whites shot-stopper will deal with the fans coming back to stadiums.

“He has been brilliant; fantastic“, Green added.

“It will be interesting to see how he does when crowds come back.”

Meslier’s performances in the past season saw him being rewarded with his first appearance for the French Under-21s in the European Under-21 Championship last month.
