Daniel Levy turned his attention towards convincing Conte to move to north London this summer after briefly flirting with the idea of luring Mauricio Pochettino back.

The Spurs chairman, Conte and his agents are currently involved in negotiations over his salary and what kind of project the Italian would be leading at Tottenham.

There are suggestions that Levy has pressed the brakes after hearing Conte’s wage demands and his transfer demands, but the talks are still alive.

And it has been claimed that there is a clear split in the Tottenham squad ahead of Conte’s potential arrival this summer.

The senior players at the club are excited at the prospect of working under a manager who has won five league titles in the last seven years.

However, some of the younger players are circumspect as Conte is known for being a manager for the here and now and is not renowned for promoting youth.

There is a chance that Ryan Mason and Ledley King could remain part of the backroom staff as Tottenham want to limit Conte to just four members of his own coaching team.
