Digne has emerged as one of the most important players in the Everton squad in recent years and flourished under Ancelotti in the last 18 months.

The Italian left the blue side of Merseyside shocked when he decided to leave Everton and move back to Real Madrid last week.

But he remains a popular figure amongst his former players and Digne conceded that he is easily the best tactician he has worked under.

The Frenchman stressed that Ancelotti possessed the ability to adapt his tactics to the players he has and was brilliant when it came to making swift decisions on changing systems.

Digne also stressed the importance of Ancelotti’s ability to clearly communicate what he wanted from his players.

The Everton told French sports daily L’Equipe: “Carlo Ancelotti [is the finest tactician I have worked with].

“He analysed opponents very well, he reads matches very well and he tries to adapt to the players he has at his disposal in that particular weekend.

“He is able to change his systems during team meetings at the snap of a finger.

“And above all, he knows very well how to explain to the players what he wants.

“His message gets through very easily.”

Ancelotti’s only full season as Everton manager was underwhelming as his side finished tenth in the league after a poor end to the campaign.
