In an odd twist of fate, Fonseca is now in advanced talks with Tottenham over succeeding Mourinho, who replaced him at Roma this summer, as Spurs manager.

Tottenham burned their fingers in negotiations with Antonio Conte and incoming director of football Fabio Paratici is believed to be driving the talks with the Portuguese at the moment.

Brazil is not sure about the way Tottenham have gone about finding a new manager and indicated that he is not convinced by Fonseca.

The Portuguese was pushed out of Roma after they finished seventh and the former Spurs star stressed that Mourinho will finish higher with the Giallorossi next season.

Brazil said on talkSPORT: “I think Tottenham have got a problem here.

“They touched on Brendan [Rodgers] and then Conte was going to be too much.

“They are talking this guy who left and funnily enough, Jose goes to Roma and I’ll tell you now Jose will finish above seventh and that I have no doubt about.

“Not only because he is on with me tomorrow but Jose will finish above seventh next season in Serie A.

“I am scratching my head here about what Spurs are going to do.”

Paratici likes Fonseca and is confident of getting a deal done to confirm the appointment of the 48-year-old as the new Spurs manager.
