The Anfield outfit failed to retain their Premier League crown in the 2020/21 season, finishing third in the table behind Manchester City and Manchester United.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are now gearing up for a brand new campaign in the hope of regaining their form from the title-winning season and reclaiming their spot at the top.
Looking ahead to the new season, former Liverpool star Mellor has expressed his desire to see the Reds reclaim the Premier League title and dubbed Manchester City their biggest opponents.
Liverpool play Manchester United first on 23rd October, while the first Merseyside derby is on 30th November at Goodison Park. Manchester City will visit Anfield on 2nd October.
“You used to look at Everton and Manchester United as our biggest games“, Mellor said on LFC TV, assessing the fixture list.
“Manchester City are our biggest rivals. We want to win the league again, take the title.
“It’s Manchester City [who are our biggest game].“
Liverpool will be looking to start the season strongly, with their first three games Norwich City (away), Burnley (home) and Chelsea (home).
