The 23-year-old’s current deal at the RheinEnergieStadion is set to expire at the end of this month and he was set to enter the free-agent market.

Scottish Premiership champions Rangers have been tracking his situation at Koln, while several Bundesliga outfits, along with Turkish giants Besiktas have also been linked with interest in acquiring his signature.

The Billy Goats have been trying to tie the midfielder down on fresh terms with new coach Steffen Baumgart keen for him to stay beyond the ongoing transfer window.

And it appears Ozcan’s potential suitors have been dealt a blow as Koln managing director Alexander Wehrle has revealed his team are on track to renew his deal.

“We are on the right path to renewing [Ozcan’s contract]”, Wehrle told German daily Bild.

Ozcan has decided to stay at Koln beyond his current deal despite interest from elsewhere.

Rangers have already reinforced their attacking department this summer by roping in Fashion Sakala and it remains to be seen whether they will turn their attention towards another midfield target with Ozcan now set to stay at Koln.
