The Whites were on the hunt for a natural left-back this summer and found their man in Firpo, sealing a move for him from Barcelona for a fee in the £13.2m range.
Leeds succeeded in fighting off strong competition for the Spaniard’s signature, including from Serie A giants AC Milan, with sporting director Orta pulling the strings in bringing him to Yorkshire.
Firpo revealed that he had interest from multiple suitors this summer but Orta managed to convince him Leeds are the right club for him with the project he presented.
The 24-year-old promised the Leeds faithful that they can expect 100 per cent commitment from him every time and stressed he cannot wait to experience the atmosphere of an Elland Road filled to the rafters.
“I am really happy, I wanted to be here and I always wanted to play in the Premier League,” Firpo told LUTV.
“This summer for me, there was many clubs interested.
“But when Victor Orta spoke with me and showed me the project, I said ‘wow, this is interesting, they really want me’.
“In this moment, I said ok I want to go to Leeds.
“The people said to me that a full Elland Road is incredible. I want to see this!
“I only want to say I will give my all here, anytime that I play I will give 100 per cent and I saw lots of messages from fans saying ‘Marching On Together’.”
The week so far has been bittersweet for Leeds fans as while they have an exciting new talent in Firpo, the club had to bid goodbye to a fan-favourite in Ezgjan Alioski.
