The Switzerland international joined Leeds from Sampdoria in the summer of 2014 and went on to help the side earn their way back into the Premier League, in the process becoming a club legend with his fully-committed displays.

However, Berardi saw his contract with the Yorkshire-based club run out at the end of last season, bringing his seven-year stay at Elland Road to an end.

Having left Leeds at the end of his contract, the defender is currently on the lookout for a new club and could have potential options in Italy’s second division.

According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Serie B outfits SPAL and Brescia have made enquired about the possibility of signing the former Sampdoria defender.

Berardi spent ten years in Italy before joining Leeds from Sampdoria in 2014 and could now be on his way back to the country this year.

Brescia, who the defender plied his trade for between 2004 and 2012, are said to be interested in acquiring his services again.

SPAL, who are managed by former Leeds assistant coach Pep Clotet, appear to be prepared to provide competition to their league rivals in the chase for Berardi’s signature.
