The Senegalese is heavily linked with leaving Rennes again this summer having spent the second half of last season on loan at Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli.

Niang, who was on the books at Serie A giants AC Milan for six years, still has admirers in Italy in the shape of newly promoted side Venezia.

But the Italians are not alone in their admiration for him as Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic are interested in taking him to Glasgow.

However, Venezia have made concrete moves to land Niang and have proposed an offer, and according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, they are expecting to hear back from him in the next 48 hours.

The Venice outfit are optimistic they can seal a deal for the striker soon as he mulls over whether to return to Italy.

Postecoglou has already bolstered his Hoops attack by roping in winger Kyogo Furuhashi, but he could still add a new striker to the squad this summer and it remains to be seen whether they will swoop for Niang.

The Celtic boss could lose one of his attackers in the coming weeks as Odsonne Edouard is heavily linked with leaving Parkhead, with him having entered the final 12 months of his current deal at the club.
