Stevens featured for the League Two side in multiple pre-season matches as a trialist, registering appearances against Newcastle United Under-23s, Rotherham United and Sunderland.

Having evaluated the 21-year-old’s qualities at close quarters, Sulphurties boss Weaver has confirmed that his club will not be following up their interest in his services.

And Weaver explained that he felt Stevens is not what his team need at present as he does not completely fit into the way they are currently playing.

The Harrogate boss stressed that Stevens is a very talented footballer, but not the type of player he is currently eyeing to improve his squad.

“We have decided not to take Jordan”, Weaver told the Harrogate Advertiser.

“He’s a good lad and a very talented footballer, but he’s not the right fit in terms of what we need at this moment in time.

“The left wing is still an area we need to strengthen but we’re looking for that Jack Diamond-type player, someone with real power who will drive at defenders down that side of the field.”

Stevens has one more year left on his current deal at Elland Road and it remains to be seen whether he leave the club this summer having spent last season on loan at Bradford City and Swindon Town.
