Manchester United have an agreement in place to sign Varane from Real Madrid and the Frenchman is set to arrive in England this week.

The centre-back is expected to slot straight into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting eleven alongside Harry Maguire at the heart of Manchester United’s defence.

Bailly recently signed a new contract at Old Trafford, but Varane’s arrival is likely to eat into his opportunities to play next season.

The defender will hold talks with the club and try to understand where he features in Solskjaer’s plans.

He is worried that he is not going to play enough games next season with the Manchester United manager is expected to play Maguire and Varane regularly.

However, Solskjaer is expecting a long season ahead for his team and expects Manchester United to play more than 60 games.

The Norwegian wants four first-team quality centre-backs in his squad for the 2021/22 campaign.

While Axel Tuanzebe, Phil Jones and Teden Mengi are expected to depart on loan or permanent deals, Bailly and Victor Lindelof still feature prominently in Solskjaer’s plans.
