A former midfielder, Betsy started his coaching career with the England youth teams and took charge of the Under-16 side in 2016.

Three years later he took charge of the Under-17s side before becoming the Under-18s manager in September last year.

He is a key part of England’s development plan for young players but he is now wanted at Arsenal.

There has been talk that Arsenal have been considering Betsy for their Under-23s job and now they have made their move.

The Gunners are indeed in talks with the 43-year-old and want him as their Under-23 head coach from next season.

Arsenal have been looking for a new Under-23 boss since Steve Bould left the club at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

Per Mertesacker, Arsenal’s academy director, is believed to be playing a key role in the hunt for a new Under-23s head coach.

Betsy is known for his work with young players and Arsenal have been impressed with what he has done with the England youth set-up.
