Aston Villa have shown ambition in the market this summer and Dean Smith is on the lookout for another midfielder in the ongoing transfer window.

They failed to sign Emile Smith Rowe from Arsenal and it seems they have turned their attention towards another target from another Premier League rival.

The Southampton midfielder is wanted at Villa Park and a first offer was slapped in test the water with the south coast club.

But the Saints were quick to reject the bid, which was claimed to be around £25m for Ward-Prowse.

Southampton are extremely reluctant to sell their captain to a Premier League rival and he is one of their most prized assets at the moment.

Ward-Prowse recently signed a new contact at St. Mary’s Stadium and the bid from Villa was termed derisory by the Saints.

The offer was not even considered but Aston Villa are expected to go in with a new bid as they remain interested in Ward-Prowse.

He scored eight goals in 38 Premier League appearances last season and is a massive part of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s plans going forward.
