Under new manager Ange Postecoglou, Celtic were looking to make a new start to life after the disappointment of the previous season when they relinquished the Scottish Premiership title to Rangers.

To the dismay of the Bhoys’ supporters however, things have started out badly as Celtic lost their Champions League qualification tie to Danish side FC Midtjylland 3-2 on aggregate as well as losing the opening game of the league season to Hearts 2-1.

McAvennie is unhappy with the state of the team and insists that Christie is one player who should not be played again.

The ex-Hoops striker also criticised Albian Ajeti, faulting him for a lack of motivation playing for the club and expressed his opinion that Odsonne Edouard wants to leave Celtic Park as well.

“The entire back four and the goalkeeper aren’t good enough, Ryan Christie is running down his contract and shouldn’t play again and it’s obvious Odsonne Edouard wants away as well”, McAvennie was quoted as saying by the Glasgow Times.

“Unfortunately, up front that just leaves Albian Ajeti, who never kicked a ball when he was with West Ham and who has no passion to play for Celtic.

“You’d have thought a new manager coming in would’ve kick-started his career but he’s done nothing.”

Christie has been a long-serving member of the Celtic squad, joining the club in the summer of 2015 and making nearly 150 appearances in all competitions for the Hoops.

The midfielder’s contract with the club expires in January next year and he has already been linked to the likes of Leicester City and Ligue 1 club Nice.
