The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Rangers during the ongoing transfer window, with Steven Gerrard believed to be a huge admirer.

However, the Scottish Premiership champions face significant competition for Veerman’s signature this summer in the shape of Dutch top flight club Feyenoord.

Feyenoord coach Arne Slot likes the midfielder and the Eredivisie outfit are claimed to have already touched base with Heerenveen over a deal for him.

The Rotterdam-based club, though, cannot meet Heerenveen’s asking price of €10m and are currently looking at ways to knock the sum down.

According to Dutch daily De Telegraaf, Feyenoord are prepared to offer their league rivals a player or two in exchange for the former FC Volendam midfielder.

It remains to be seen if Heerenveen are willing to accept a swap deal for the Dutchman, who has also been the subject of transfer interest from Hellas Verona.

Heerenveen are currently looking for a striker.

Veerman, who feels Heerenveen’s asking price of €10m is too high, has already revealed that he would love to join Feyenoord this summer.
