The Hammers are in the market for a new centre-back and are keen to add to their defensive options before the transfer window slams shut this month.
West Ham have been heavily linked with a move for Fiorentina central defender Milenkovic and there were suggestions that a deal was close to being agreed.
It was claimed that David Moyes’ side are edging closer to agreeing a £14m deal with the Italian club, with only the final details of the transfer left to be ironed out.
However, it appears that West Ham’s talks with Fiorentina did not reach a positive conclusion as the Londoners ended their negotiations over a deal for the Serb last week.
With Milenkovic seemingly no longer an option for West Ham, Chelsea centre-back Zouma is back in the picture as the Irons are yet to give up hope of snapping him up.
The France international is among the players Chelsea are willing to sell this summer as they look to strengthen their defensive options with the addition of Jules Kounde from Sevilla.
Chelsea are prepared to sell Zouma for around £25m and West Ham have been in talks with the Stamford Bridge outfit over a deal.
However, the Hammers’ hopes of signing Zouma have hit a stumbling block, with the defender’s wage demands proving to be too high for them.
