The 21-year-old has attracted serious transfer interest from clubs in Croatia, Denmark and Greece, as well as the Championship, during the ongoing transfer window.

However, Scottish Premiership outfit Hearts have emerged as the frontrunners to acquire Woodburn’s services from Liverpool and are confident of getting a deal over the line.

The Wales international now looks set to join the Scottish top flight club on a temporary deal until January and could complete the move in the next 48 hours.

Woodburn has entered the final year of his contract with Liverpool and it remains to be seen if the Merseyside-based club intend to hand him a new deal.

While the 21-year-old’s future at Anfield is uncertain, the Reds have been reluctant to allow him to leave this summer, having been impressed with him during pre-season.

Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has been among the staff that have been advocating keeping the Welshman at the club.

Woodburn, though, appears to be on his way to Hearts and will be hopeful of getting regular playing time under his belt and potentially persuade Liverpool to offer him a new deal.
