With less than two weeks remaining in the transfer window, the west Midlands outfit are keen to strengthen their defensive options and Semedo has emerged as an option.

Bruno Lage’s side opened negotiations with Olympiacos over a deal for Semedo after they were offered the opportunity to sign the Portugal international this summer.

While Wolves were not initially convinced that a €10m move for the 27-year-old is ideal for them, they appear to have decided to pursue a deal as they look to bolster their defence.

Having progressed with their negotiations with Olympiacos, the Molineux club have reached an agreement with the Greek club over a €10m deal for Semedo.

However, acquiring a work permit for the former Villarreal central defender is proving to be a major stumbling block in Wolves’ hopes of getting the deal over the line.

There have been suggestions that Semedo could be unlikely to get a UK visa after being given a five-year suspended sentence for various charges including assault, robbery and possession of a firearm.

With the transfer window having entered its final stretch, it remains to be seen if Wolves will succeed in their attempts to take Semedo to Molineux.

Apart from Wolves, the centre-back has also attracted transfer interest from Portuguese giants Benfica, FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon.
