Torreira is scheduled to fly out to Italy today ahead of completing a loan move to Fiorentina.
The Italian club have an agreement in place with Arsenal for the midfielder’s loan and the agreement also contains an option to buy for a fee of €15m.
Gelsi is an admirer of the Uruguayan and has been keeping tabs on him since the midfielder’s days at Pescara.
The former Fiorentina star is certain that Torreira would be a solid player for the club if he completes the move.
He is confident that the midfielder has all the qualities needed to fulfil the requirements of Fiorentina.
Gelsi told Italian outlet Tutto Mercato when asked about Torreira’s potential arrival: “He is an excellent player.
“I know him personally, he is a serious boy and has made great progress since his days at Pescara.
“He would be an important player for the Fiorentina midfield.
“He drives the team ahead, he has personality and can shoot.
“He is a complete player for Fiorentina’s requirements.”
Torreira has no future at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta and he will be hoping that he does enough to convince Fiorentina to take up the option on him.
