James’ future at Everton is under the scanner as he is out of favour under Toffees boss Rafael Benitez and is heavily linked with an exit.

Everton are trying to include James in an agreement to sign Luis Diaz from FC Porto and the former Real Madrid man would move to Portugal on loan.

James though could instead be moving to Italy with AC Milan.

According to ESPN journalist Vito de Palma, cited by Marca Claro, James already has an agreement in place with Serie A giants AC Milan over a shock deadline day move to the San Siro.

The Rossoneri were keen on James earlier in the window, but their admiration appeared to cool down; now they are interested again.

AC Milan are looking to bring in James on a free transfer from Everton as their transfer policy prevents them from spending cash on a player over 26.

Parting ways with James would allow Everton to shed a significant sum from their wage bill, but it remains to be seen whether they will agree to let him leave without earning a fee.
