The Maitland-Niles saga has seen various twists and turns over the last 24 hours with Arsenal deciding against loaning him out to Everton.

A social media outburst from the player resulted in the club banishing him from first-team training today but talks between the player and Mikel Arteta have reportedly calmed things down.

Arsenal are still believed to be open to letting him go if they receive a suitable offer despite Arteta assuring the 24-year-old that he is part of his plans.

And it has been claimed that Everton’s offer was rejected as Arsenal did not think it was good enough.

Arsenal were prepared to loan him out but the option to buy proposed by Everton was deemed too low.

Everton are working under budgetary constraints this summer and are unlikely to make another late bid for him today.

Arsenal are now also expected to keep Maitland-Niles beyond the end of the transfer window tonight.
