Grigg arrived at the Stadium of Light from Wigan Athletic in January 2019 but has struggled to establish himself at the club since arriving on Wearside.
The striker spent the latter half of last season on loan at MK Dons and is again linked with leaving Sunderland before the window slams shut tonight.
Grigg has admriers in Sunderland’s League One rivals, including Doncaster Rovers, who were unsuccessful with a bid for him, and Rotherham United, while Charlton were also interested in signing him in a deadline day swoop.
However, the Addicks are not pursuing a move for the Grigg anymore and they have left the race for his signature.
But Grigg could still swap clubs today as Donny have slapped in an improved bid for him.
The hitman is not part of boss Lee Johnson’s plans at Sunderland this season as they look to earn promotion and the club will decide if they want to sell him or loan him out having received an offer from Doncaster.
It remains to be seen whether the 30-year-old manages to seal a deadline day exit in the coming hours with Doncaster leading the chase while Rotherham are yet to give up on him.
