Newcastle snapped up Joe Willock on a permanent deal from Arsenal earlier this month and so far, he remains their only first team signing in this window.

But Newcastle boss Steve Bruce was keen on bringing in another midfielder before the window slams shut tonight and zeroed in on Leicester man Choudhury.

The Foxes star was on the Magpies radar all summer and they were locked in negotiations with his club over a swoop.

But Newcastle will not be able to land their man on a deadline day swoop as negotiations with Leicester have broken down.

The Midlands side were even open to accepting compromises in terms of Choudhury’s wages, but Newcastle could not reach an agreement over a deal for him.

Having seen their efforts to land Choudhury come undone, Newcastle are not expected to bring in any more players in the last hours of the transfer window.

And Choudhury, who only played a bit part role under Brendan Rodgers last team, will also need to to find another club in the next few hours should he want to play regular games, as he could be a peripheral figure this term as well at the King Power Stadium.
