Magpies boss Steve Bruce has been hoping to make further additions before the transfer window slams shut and Leicester man Choudhury is a player he admires.

A potential deadline-beating loan has been floated, but Newcastle will not sign Choudhury today.

Instead the club’s business with regards to arrivals for the first team is now at an end.

Newcastle splashed the cash earlier this summer to land Joe Willock from Arsenal.

The transfer exhausted the club’s transfer kitty and they were reduced to looking for loan deals to bolster the squad.

The Magpies have failed on that front though and Bruce will now have to go with what he has got, at least until the January transfer window opens for business.

Newcastle have picked up just a single point from their three opening Premier League games so far, managing a 2-2 draw at home to Southampton at the weekend.
