Ronaldo sealed a sensational return to Manchester United towards the end of the summer transfer window last month.

The 36-year-old forward joined training with his new team-mates this week and is in line to make his second debut for the Red Devils when they host Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Many believe that with Ronaldo in the team, Manchester United are now one of the firm contenders to win the Premier League and Berbatov insisted that his former team-mate’s presence will make everyone in the dressing room believe that they can win the league.

He conceded that the whole squad need to step up if Manchester United are to win the league, but insisted that the 36-year-old is an example of a true winner for the young players in the squad and they will learn about the mentality needed to win the big trophies.

Berbatov told talkSPORT: “He is a big boost to everybody in the United dressing room.

“We all know who Ronaldo is and what he can bring to the table and I hope everybody is going to get that mental boost that will finally get them challenging for the Premier League.

“I think that name, Ronaldo, automatically gives you that moment of everyone thinking that now we have a real chance of challenging for the Premier League title.

“Of course, in reality sometimes that is not easy as football is a team sport and you have 20 players in the squad and everybody should help in that challenge.

“That’s why I said that Ronaldo is coming to the team after doing it all in football. Individual awards, team awards, Premier League champions, Champions League winner too.

“He knows how to win things and that’s why it is important that the young players around him start learning what a true winner is and put into the team mentality.

“In this way, they can help the whole team to perform better.”

Berbatov was part of the Manchester United squad when Ronaldo won the last of his three Premier League titles in the 2008/09 season.
