Leeds have made a slow start to the season, collecting two points from their opening three league games.
After the international break, Leeds are preparing to welcome Liverpool to Elland Road this weekend as the league action kicks back in.
The Whites are looking to get the first win of their league season, but Matteo feels they need to guard against going too attacking against Liverpool at home on Sunday.
He believes both teams have reasons to need to win the game at Elland Road but feels Liverpool have the players to exploit Leeds at the back if the home side go too gung ho.
However, Matteo insisted that he expects the game to be a high-scoring draw as both sides have the attacking players to score a few goals.
Matteo said on the official Leeds United Podcast: “I think this is an important game for both the clubs to set that marker out now.
“Liverpool want to show what they are all about because they obviously didn’t have the best of seasons last year.
“Whereas Leeds are still growing as a club, but they also have to think about who they are playing against and don’t go too gung ho against Liverpool because they have the players to pick you off.
“It is an interesting game and I generally do think, it might be a draw and I am sitting on the fence there.
“I think it might be a high scoring draw.”
Leeds United managed to play out a 1-1 draw when Liverpool visited Elland Road last season.
