Manchester United thrashed Leeds 5-1 on the opening weekend but they collected two more draws in the next two games before the international break.

Leeds have made a slow start to the season and are now up against Merseyside giants Liverpool at Elland Road on Sunday.

Matteo feels Leeds now have a squad where they can rely on a number of players to help the team to get results and points this season.

But the former Leeds star feels it is time they understand that they cannot afford to continue to take too many risks as Premier League sides will work them out in their second year in the top flight.

Matteo said on the official Leeds United Podcast: “Leeds have got people they can rely on, they have got more than one person they can rely on.

“We are not just talking about Stuart Dallas every time, we have got everyone who are in it together.

“That’s one thing this year Leeds have to really [focus on]. Obviously, they had the first season in the Premier League but this is maybe a harder year.

“And I just think they need to really push forward but not taking as many risks, I think we have taken many risks at times and sometimes teams will work you out.

“Liverpool are a team that can work you out.”

Leeds have conceded eight goals in their opening three league games and are yet to keep a clean sheet this season.
