Emerson spent one-and-a-half seasons with Real Betis before re-joining Barcelona in the summer, but went on to join Tottenham for around £25.8m on transfer deadline day.

Reflecting on Emerson’s deadline day move to Tottenham, Real Betis centre-back Bartra admitted that he was surprised to see the Brazilian leave the Catalans in the summer.

The former Borussia Dortmund star, though, is confident that Emerson will succeed at Tottenham as he feels the right-back is very ambitious and competitive.

Bartra, who has a good relationship with Emerson, hailed the 22-year-old as a great personality, as well as a great player with technical and physical qualities.

Asked if he is surprised by Emerson’s exit from Barcelona, Bartra told Radio Marca: “Yes, yes, he is a great player, with very, very good conditions, both technically and physically“.

He is a marvel, I have a very good relationship with him, he is a good guy.

And I wish him all the best because he deserves it.

A guy with a lot of ambition, he is a winner, very competitive and I’m sure he can do very well with Tottenham.

Having joined Tottenham on a permanent deal in the summer, Emerson will be hopeful of achieving success with the north London giants.
