Nkounkou signed for the Belgian club on deadline day for a season-long loan after making just two appearances for Everton in the last campaign in the Premier League.

Standard Liege finished a disappointing sixth place in the Belgian top flight last season and were not able to qualify for any European football in the current campaign.

Nkounkou stated that he will consider his loan season a success if Standard Liege manage to improve on the last campaign and qualify for Europe.

The left-back also would consider it a personal success if he is able to get ample game-time in Belgium and finish the season with a good record.

“My season will be a success if we get to European football”, Nkounkou was quoted as saying by Belgian outlet Voetbalkrant.

“That is how I came to know Standard, a team that fight for prizes.”

“If I have played a lot too and if I can have good statistics.”

Nkounkou will be hoping he is able to help Standard Liege reach the European places by getting much more playing-time as compared to last season and performing well enough to impress in Belgium.
