There have been a flurry of new arrivals at the Valley recently, with the Addicks’ business going beyond deadline day and into the current month.
On deadline day the Addicks signed Samuel Lavelle on a permanent basis, with Harry Arter and Jonathan Leko coming on loan, while September saw the arrival of free agents Pape Souare and Stephen Henderson.
Adkins revealed that he would have much preferred to have the large squad that he has now starting from pre-season and stated that with the new arrivals it feels like starting over again.
The Addicks boss revealed that Charlton’s priority right now is to get the players who have not had many games under their belt fully fit and match-ready.
Speaking to CharltonTV, Adkins said: “From my point of view I would’ve loved to have been in this situation at the start of pre-season.
“As it is we’re starting again because we’ve basically got a whole brand new group.
“We’ve got a big squad of players now.
“We’ve got to make sure that there is a pathway there for the youngsters who have done great, so there’s a lot of time and attention going in on that.
“We’ve obviously got some more senior players in and we’ve got to get them up to speed with the fitness side of things as well and the games.
“Some players have not played as many games as they’ve needed to go and do so we’ve got to try and get them up to speed.”
Adkins will be hoping that the new signings help boost his side as they currently languish in 19th place in the League One table, with the win last month against Crewe Alexandra halting a run of three straight defeats.
