Antonio has been at West Ham since 2015 but has come into his own in recent seasons, with boss David Moyes entrusting him to spearhead the Hammers attack.
The 31-year-old has hit the ground running for West Ham in the Premier League this term, scoring and assisting in all three of their opening games.
Ex-West Ham midfielder Cole is an admirer of Antonio and lauded him for giving his all for the Londoners every time he takes to the pitch.
Antonio missed chunks of games in each of the last two seasons through injury and Cole is of the view that the only thing the hitman needs to just keep going at his current performance level is to keep his fitness levels up.
“He [Antonio] is a fantastic player and he’s really developed”, Cole told The Athletic.
“He’s a player that West Ham fans love because of the way he plays.
“He always gives it his all and he’s a great character.
“I look back at the Euros, especially the final against Italy, and imagine Antonio going up against Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci.
“He would have been a nightmare for them.
“The only thing Antonio needs to do is keep himself fit.
“If he keeps looking after himself, he’ll be like a Jamie Vardy and just keep going.”
Antonio recently became West Ham’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League and fans will be hoping he will keep adding to his tally on a regular basis.
