The Reds’ only new recruitment this summer came in the shape of centre-back Ibrahim Konate, while their rivals in the top flight title race in the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea all invested heavily in the recently concluded transfer window, especially in attack.

Despite their lack of big-name signings, Liverpool have started their Premier League campaign on a strong note, registering three wins and a draw in four outings.

Liverpool legend Aldridge has issued a warning to the Reds’ top flight rivals that they are a problem to deal with even though they did not rope in any mega stars this summer.

Aldridge explained that Liverpool have a group of players that know each other well and have enjoyed success together, to which they can add more if they remain consistent and are a bit more clinical in front of the goal.

“You can’t underestimate Liverpool in this title race”, Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

“We’ve shown over the last three years what this team can do.

“While we haven’t gone out and bought mega stars like other clubs, our players know each other well and have enjoyed success together in recent years.

“The only worry would be if the team goes stale but, from what I’ve seen so far, it doesn’t seem like that will be the case.

“Alisson [Becker] is at it, Fabinho has been brilliant, Trent [Alexander-Arnold] is back at it, Thiago is brilliant and the front three are all capable of scoring plenty of goals throughout the season.

“We are a problem for anyone: United, Chelsea and Man City.

“We just have to maintain our consistency and be a bit more clinical.”

The Reds will return to Premier League action at the weekend when they host Crystal Palace, after they take on AC Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday.
