The Premier League champions were the favourites to win the competition last season but came undone against Chelsea in the final.

Thomas Tuchel’s side produced a tactical masterclass to outwit Pep Guardiola’s side and Chelsea won their second Champions League crown.

Guardiola was criticised for making a few selection and tactical decisions, but Rodri insisted that Manchester City have no regrets over losing the final last season.

He insisted that it was a thing of pride for them as Manchester City made the final for the first time in their history and they have learned their lessons from the defeat.

The Spaniard said in a press conference: “We were proud of what we achieved.

“It was the first time in our history we arrived in the final. We have no regrets. We will learn from this experience.

“We have to build another building – a huge building – this season.”

Manchester City are again one of the heavy favourites to win the trophy even before a ball is kicked in the group stage.

They will open their campaign on Wednesday night with a home against RB Leipzig at the Etihad.
