The Magpies and Bielsa’s Leeds will lock horns at St. James’ Park on Friday, with both sides looking to earn their first Premier League win of the season.
Newcastle star Manquillo is well-placed to talk about Bielsa and co. as he is familiar with the Whites boss, having briefly worked with him during his time at French top flight club Marseille.
Looking ahead to his side’s clash with Bielsa’s Leeds, Manquillo revealed that he did not get to know the Argentinean tactician much as he left the club a few weeks after he joined Marseille on loan from Atletico Madrid.
However, the Spaniard explained that he is aware of the intensity with which Bielsa’s teams play and is expecting Leeds to pose a difficult challenge on Friday.
“Well, I have to tell you that I only worked with Bielsa for just the two or three weeks because I’d only just gone to Marseille and that was around the time when he’d decided to leave the club“, Manquillo told NUFC TV.
“So as a result, I didn’t really get to know him too well.
“But, I reckon what we do all know about Bielsa is that all his teams play with such an incredibly high intensity and so I think it’s going to be a very tough game for us.
“But, it’s a game that we have to win.“
Newcastle go into the game with just one point, while Leeds have two points to their name, having drawn against Everton and Burnley in their four games so far.
