A Loic Bade own goal gave Tottenham the lead in France, but Flavien Tait equalised for Rennes midway through the first-half and Gaetan Laborde added a second in the 71st minute to give the French side the lead.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg equalised for Spurs in the 76th minute and they managed to leave the ground with a point despite struggling to match Rennes’ intensity for most of the game.

Genesio was delighted with the performance of his side and stressed that his players did everything that he wanted from them.

But he conceded that the result was disappointing as the Rennes coach believes the three points were there for the taking and they should have won the game.

Genesio told French broadcaster Canal+: “I am disappointed with the result, even if with what we showed I am satisfied.

“This is what we asked of the players and we achieved the objective.

“We had the three points reaching out to us but unfortunately, we conceded a goal without replying.

“But we can still be frustrated and disappointed.”

Spurs have a quick turnaround in the next 48 hours as they will be hosting Chelsea in a big London derby on Sunday.
