Since being promoted to first team, Shackleton has largely remained a key squad player under Bielsa, stepping up in his natural midfield role and in at right-back when required.

The 21-year-old has ambitions to feature more frequently for the Whites this term and sees it as a crucial period in his development as a player.

However, Shackleton has revealed he is not eyeing nailing down any particular position under the Argentine and wants to impress in whichever position he is being deployed.

The Leeds star added that whenever he is handed minutes, his only aim is to completely commit himself and give 100 per cent at that time in that particular position.

Asked whether he has got his eyes on any particular position he wants to nail down this term, Shackleton said on BBC Radio Leeds: “I think players in our team are all very flexible, can play in a number of positions like myself.

“So, the aim is just to try and impress when I am on the pitch and get whatever minutes.

“So, whatever comes with that, whether that is centre-mid, right-back wherever.

“If I am on the pitch then my thoughts will be just on giving a 100 per cent.”

Shackleton came off the bench in the dying minutes of Leeds’ 1-1 draw away at Newcastle United on Friday night and will be keen to be handed a start in the EFL Cup tie against Fulham next week.
