Relegated from the Championship last term, the current season is the Owls’ first in the third tier since the 2011/12 campaign.

It is also only the fifth season in the third tier for the Owls in the 21st century and their relegation last term partly came about due to a deduction of points on account of breaching EFL rules.

Moore is adamant that the Owls have to recognise they are a big scalp in League One and be proud of it.

The Owls boss went further and suggested that their big team status is not restricted to the third tier as even teams in the Championship would consider defeating the Owls to be an achievement.

“We cannot and will not hide from the fact that that we are a big scalp in [this] division”, Moore wrote in Sheffield Wednesday’s official programme.

“In fact, we would be a bit scalp in the Championship, let alone anywhere else.

“There is no doubt that some teams will raise their game against us by 10/20% because that is the nature of being a big club whose history has built the foundations of this wonderful club today.”

Historically a big club, the Owls have enjoyed long spells in the top flight and unlike many of their fellow League One clubs can boast of having won multiple league titles as well as FA Cups.
